The scar is still healing, raised like a welt on the skin. She holds up her arm so her loose bell sleeve drops away, revealing the long, jagged scar across the wrist. “Why are you doing this? Why did you do this to me?” “Are you threatening me?” Her voice rises, the edge of hysteria sharp as razor wire. “That would cause a lot of problems for you. “I don’t think that’s a very good idea.” I tuck my hands in my pockets, tilting my head as I look at her. They tied me up, cut my wrists, and left me in the woods. Her lips are swollen and chapped, as if she’s been biting at them. Her eyes glint with tears of fury, but she refuses to let them fall. I’d like to hold her against me, to feel those tremors vibrating through my frame. I can’t wait to watch it over again tonight. Her expression of shock when she saw my face, and the awful struggle as she had to discuss her work with the panel, while her brain must have been twisting and turning inside her skull. Her rage, her fear, and the delicious predicament I put her in, all mixed together in a potent cocktail. I’m enjoying this so much I can hardly stand it. “I know it was you,” she says, her voice low and hoarse. Her thin hands tremble, and she digs her nails into the thighs of her jeans. Her dark hair swirls around her face, defying gravity from the pure electric tension between us. She’s illuminated with fury, eyes blazing, cheeks flaming. I wait for her to speak, watching the rapid rise and fall of her chest, thrilling at the hectic spots of color on her cheeks. Pressing her lips together, she marches into the room, closing the door behind her. She hesitates in the doorway, afraid to be alone with me. I lead Mara down the hall to an empty studio several doors down. It’s all leverage to get Mara right where I want her: completely at my mercy. The discounted rate was a fabrication, invented by me on the spot. She knew something was up the moment I told her to offer Mara the studio. The other panel members turn to look at me, to see if I’ll comply. “Excuse me!” she pants, her cheeks flaming pink. ![]() We’re about to enter the junior studio on the opposite side of the building when Mara catches up with me. Pre-order the stunning conclusion There is No Devil! **Thank you to Social Butterfly pr and the author for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review** Overall this was a lot more entertaining, intense and interesting and kinkier than what I expected but oh dear did I enjoyed it! There is something else going on and that thought makes me want to read the next book asap. The plot was interesting and intense and very entertaining read but I had to say I’d have loved to read a chapter from Alastor pov. She is strong and decisive and resilient and life gave her all the freaking lemons but our girl had found a way to still remain sweet and caring but also a badass!Įverytime Cole wants to rule her, she was like nope… I’ll do it in my way and ugh it was so good. With Mara happened the opposite, I absolutely ADORED her from the very beginning. I never fully liked him but I understood him. He was classist egocentric elitist and even sexist but then you remembered he’s also a sociopath and a psychopath that he has different range of emotions (aka has none) and by the end you understand his actions. For example with Cole, I hated him from the start. With our main characters I had very different thoughts. I have to say, when I read the blurb of this one, I knew it was going to be very different from what I’ve read from Sophie before but nothing would have prepared me for how different. ![]() This was dark, twisted and very kinky so if you have read SL before or even if you haven’t, I’d said proceed with caution because this one is very dark and at times very disturbing. But she has no idea she’s dancing with the devil… I don’t know if I should protect her at all costs… or destroy her before she ruins me. She makes me feel things I never thought I could feel. ![]() I’m fixated on her for a different reason… Shaw wants to use her as a pawn in his twisted game. Until the night we both laid eyes on Mara Eldritch. In truth, we’re predators battling for hunting ground. The city of San Francisco thinks we’re rival artists.
